What have you done to reduce your carbon footprint?
The Village of Island Lake has just completed a significant energy reduction project in the Village Hall and Police Department.
Through two grants administered through the Metropolitan Mayors Caucus and obtained from the Illinois Department of Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and the Illinois Clean Energy Community Foundation (ICECF) we were able to replace or retrofit over 180 lighting fixtures.
It is estimated that this project alone will reduce our carbon footprint by over 57 tons annually, equal to the average yearly carbon dioxide emissions produced by 11.4 cars per year!
While this undertaking provides significant reduction in emissions, it is important to note the Village of Island Lake will see an estimated savings of over $5,000 in energy costs per year.
We are thankful for the assistance provided by the grant opportunity and look forward to continuing this process of reducing our energy needs and improving our environment.
