Spring is almost here and thoughts of pretty flowers and vegetables fresh from the garden are in everyone’s minds.
Recognizing that not everyone has the space or the sunlight needed at their home to grow a garden and the camaraderie and good spirit that can be cultivated in community gardening, the Village of Island Lake again prepares to open the plots of Victory Garden.
This community garden is in Island Lake’s Veterans Park with garden plots available to residents and community organizations on a first come first serve basis. Each in-ground space will be 5’ x 16’ plot and there will be three raised planters for anyone unable to garden at ground level.
A WATER SUPPLY FOR GARDENERS IS AVAILABLE.
Please let us know if you are interested in reserving a garden space for your family or group. The fee is $25.00 with a $10 refund in the fall when the space is cleaned up. Plots open April 27 and clean up is October 12.
Grow vegetables, not only for the nutritious value, but to share the experience of planting seeds and being able to eat the fruits of your labor with your whole family. Share the bounty with the Wauconda/Island Lake food pantry. The pantry will gladly accept fresh produce to distribute to those in need.
